As Environmental Policy Manager for Dorset County Council, Malcolm established the Dorset Coast Forum in 1994 and later led the EU funded ICZM project which produced the 'Dorset Coast Strategy.' Though now retired, Malcolm continues to Chair the Dorset Coast Forum Steering Group and is involved in a number of Forum projects. He is also developing the geological interpretation in the refurbishment of Durlston Castle as a major visitor gateway to the Jurassic Coast.
Malcolm was involved in developing the bid for World Heritage Site status from the outset and in 2010 received the Geological Society's R.H. Worth prize for his work as a member of the core group which gained World Heritage status for the coast in December 2001. Malcolm is a founding trustee of the Jurassic Coast Trust.
Malcolm's interests are focussed on the sea and coast. A former member of Swanage Lifeboat crew, he currently enjoys sea kayaking, rowing and sailing as well as fossil hunting along Dorset's beaches.
